Although Instagram was launched in October 2010, the need for longer video options came much later. That's why Instagram launched its over-a-minute-long video option IGTV nearly eight years later, or specifically on 20 June 2018.
Currently available in several languages, IGTV comes with a separate app and allows users to post videos up to an hour long. Although you'll find few people who do that.
· If you're uploading via mobile phone, the maximum length of your IGTV video is 15 minutes.
· BUT if you're uploading via Web, the maximum length is 60 minutes.
· Video format must be MP4
· In terms of file size, a 10-minute video should not exceed 650MB, whereas an hour-long video should not go over 3.6GB
As for you IGTV's cover photo, so far the app doesn't allow you to change or edit the cover photo once you've uploaded it.
·
Cover photo recommended
dimensions: 420 pixels by 654 pixels (or 1:1.55 ratio)
· A vertical video with an aspect ratio of 9:16 or a horizontal video with an aspect ratio of 16:9
· IGTV is available in 30 languages
The app stresses that videos "should have a minimum frame rate of 30 FPS (frames per second) and minimum resolution of 720 pixels."
Now that you have the basics, why don't you test out your first video on IGTV.
